Job Description

The Role:

We’re looking for a dynamic and experienced HR Business Partner to join our team and play a key role in shaping and delivering our people strategy. This role centres on managing complex people issues and providing strategic HR support across multiple departments and college locations. You’ll partner with senior leaders to provide expert guidance on all aspects of HR, drive forward workforce initiatives, and help foster a culture of excellence, inclusion, and continuous improvement. This is a fantastic opportunity to influence change and make a real impact across a diverse and ambitious organisation. Based across multiple campuses, this in-person role requires regular travel across the College Group to ensure consistent service delivery, compliance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on individual casework and provide expert support to managers on a wide range of people matters, including performance, absence, and conduct.
  • Coordinate and deliver HR processes for organisational change, including consultations and redundancy planning.
  • Support the development and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and projects.
  • Monitor and manage probation, performance reviews, and mandatory training compliance.
  • Collaborate with trade unions and external bodies such as ACAS and Employment Tribunals. Stay up to date with HR best practice and employment legislation.
  • Represent HR at interview panels and support recruitment cycles when required.

Who You Are:

You’re a confident and experienced HR professional with a solid track record across the full HR lifecycle. You’re skilled at influencing stakeholders, navigating complex people matters, and staying up to date with employment legislation. You thrive in fast-paced environments and are ready to grow your career within a large, multi-site organisation with a matrix structure, where your impact will be felt across diverse teams and locations. Experience in the education sector is desirable, but not essential. Qualifications such as CIPD membership are valued, but it’s your practical experience, adaptability, and ability to build strong relationships that will make you successful in this role. If you're looking for a role where you can make a meaningful contribution and continue developing your HR career, this could be the perfect next step.

What We Offer:

  • Pension: New City College provides a career average pension scheme for all staff (TPS or LGPS)
  • Accessibility: All college sites are easily accessible for wheelchair users and via public transport (bus, DLR, or tube).
  • On-Site Facilities: Free access to on-site gym facilities at some campuses and on-site cafes serving subsidised food and drinks.
  • Staff Development: Five CPD (Continuing Professional Development) days per year, with access to industry-standard facilities and a collaborative working environment. Leading to opportunities for career advancement and professional development in a supportive setting.
  • Financial Perks: Interest-free loans for annual travel season tickets. Health cash plan (reimbursement for dental, optical, and therapy treatments) and a completely confidential Employee assistance program.
  • Discounts: Save money on day-to-day expenses, shopping, dining out, DIY, and travel.
