New Chapter Tuition is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Student Wellbeing & Academic Tutor to support vulnerable learners aged 11–16 across Wandsworth who are unable to fully access mainstream education. This role focuses on supporting students with SEN and SEMH needs, building confidence, developing positive relationships, and boosting academic attainment and engagement. You will work 1:1 with learners who may experience anxiety, ADHD, behavioural challenges, or school avoidance, using a relationship-based and trauma-informed approach. You will deliver personalised support in community-based settings including learners’ homes, libraries, learning hubs, and alternative provisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 academic and wellbeing support to students aged 11–16 with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Plan and adapt personalised learning programmes to meet individual academic, emotional, and behavioural needs
  • Build strong, trusting relationships that promote confidence, resilience, and engagement
  • Support learners with emotional regulation, motivation, and self-esteem
  • Use creative and flexible approaches to re-engage disengaged students
  • Monitor progress in attainment, attendance, and wellbeing
  • Provide clear feedback to families, schools, and professionals

Person Specification

We are looking for tutors who are passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and able to work independently in community-based settings.

Essential

  • Experience working with SEN, SEMH, ADHD, anxiety, or disengaged learners
  • Strong understanding of the UK curriculum (KS3–KS4)
  • Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Confidence working independently in outreach or alternative provision settings

Desirable

  • Previous outreach, alternative provision, or pastoral support experience
  • Teaching qualification (QTS/QTLS/PGCE) or relevant education training
  • Experience working with SEND teams, schools, or local authorities
