Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm
Student Day: 9:00am–2:30pm

New Chapter Tuition is recruiting a Motor Vehicle Instructor to join a specialist vocational education provision in Reading, Berkshire.
This is an exciting, hands-on role combining mechanics, motorsport, vocational instruction and behaviour mentoring, supporting KS3–KS5 learners with SEMH needs, SEND, ADHD and behavioural challenges.
You'll help young people re-engage with education through practical automotive activities, developing their confidence, technical skills, independence and future employment opportunities.
Working 1:1 and with small groups of up to eight learners, you'll provide practical instruction, encouragement and structured support.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging mechanics, motor vehicle and motorsport-based learning activities
- Demonstrate practical skills, tools, equipment and basic vehicle maintenance
- Instruct and support learners individually and in small groups of up to eight
- Promote workshop safety and responsible use of equipment
- Adapt practical activities to meet individual learning needs
- Support emotional regulation, positive behaviour and engagement
- Build trusting relationships and establish clear professional boundaries
- Contribute to planning, preparation and monitoring learner progress
Who We're Looking For
We welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in:
- Motor vehicle mechanics, servicing or repairs
- Automotive engineering, motorsport or vehicle maintenance
- Workshop supervision, technical instruction or training
- Vocational education, coaching or apprenticeships
- Youth work, alternative provision or behaviour support
- Armed Forces or technical training environments
You do not need to be a qualified teacher.
We're looking for someone with practical mechanical knowledge, strong communication skills and the confidence to instruct, motivate and engage young people.
Experience supporting young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs would be advantageous, but relevant training will be provided.
