Vocational Learning Mentor – SEMH & SEND
Location: Basildon, Essex
Salary: £21,731–£24,195.50 + up to £2,500 annual performance bonus
Contract: Full Time | Permanent | Term Time Only
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm
Student Day: 9:00am–2:30pm
New Chapter Tuition is recruiting a Vocational Learning Mentor to join a specialist vocational education provision in Basildon.
This is a hands-on role combining learning delivery, practical instruction and behaviour mentoring. You will support KS3–KS5 learners with SEMH, ADHD, SEND and behavioural needs, helping them re-engage with education through practical and vocational learning, including mechanics and motorsport.
Working 1:1 and with small groups of up to eight learners, you will help deliver and instruct vocational activities, support learning and progress, and provide the structure, boundaries and positive relationships young people need to succeed.
The role will involve:
- Delivering and supporting practical, vocational learning
- Instructing learners through mechanics and motorsport-based activities
- Supporting learners 1:1 and in small groups of up to eight
- Helping learners understand tasks, develop skills and make progress
- Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement
- Using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
- Building consistent, professional relationships with young people
- Contributing to preparation, planning and wider responsibilities outside student-facing hours
We're keen to hear from candidates from education, youth work, alternative provision, behaviour support, mechanics, motorsport, the Armed Forces or Cadet Forces.
You do not need to be a qualified teacher or mechanic. We're looking for someone who is confident instructing and engaging young people, can establish clear boundaries and is enthusiastic about using practical learning to help young people succeed.
An enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and the right to work in the UK are required.
