Vocational Instructor / Learning Mentor – SEMH & SEND
Location: Basildon, Essex
Salary: £21,731–£24,195.50 + up to £2,500 annual bonus

Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm
Student Hours: 9:00am–2:30pm

New Chapter Tuition is recruiting a Vocational Instructor / Learning Mentor for a specialist education provision in Basildon, supporting young people with SEMH needs, SEND, ADHD and behavioural challenges.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a genuine difference through hands-on, practical and vocational education, including mechanics and motorsport activities.
You don't need to be a qualified teacher or mechanic. We're looking for someone who can engage, motivate and inspire young people while providing clear boundaries, structure and positive role modelling.
Your Responsibilities
- Deliver and support practical, vocational learning activities, including mechanics and motorsport
- Support KS3–KS5 learners individually and in small groups of up to eight
- Help young people develop practical skills, confidence and independence
- Support learners with SEMH, SEND, ADHD and behavioural needs
- Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
- Build trusting, professional relationships with young people
- Support lesson preparation, planning and learner progress
- Encourage engagement, emotional regulation and positive outcomes
Who We're Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals with experience in:
- Teaching, teaching assistance or alternative provision
- Youth work, mentoring or behaviour support
- Mechanics, motorsport or vocational instruction
- The Armed Forces, Cadet Forces or similar structured environments
- Supporting young people with SEMH, SEND or additional needs
You do not need a teaching qualification or formal mechanical qualification.
We're particularly interested in candidates who are confident working with young people, can maintain professional boundaries and have a genuine enthusiasm for practical learning.
