New Bridge School's discrete Autism provision provides a consistent environment for students with autism and complex needs. The curriculum echoes that of the main school, with all subjects and school facilities accessible. The Autism Base focuses on developing social interaction, self- and sensory regulation, and communication skills to help pupils express wants, needs and emotions appropriately. Pupils work towards independence and lifelong community participation, with a higher staff-to-pupil ratio and enrichment subjects delivered by specialist teachers. We are looking for a class teacher for a group in this provision. The post offers opportunities for Curriculum Leadership roles and professional development with strong support from colleagues.

Based at New Bridge School in Hollinwood (initial site; staff are employed by the MAT and may work at other sites within the New Bridge Group). We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and all staff and volunteers share this commitment.

Responsibilities

  • Be an excellent practitioner with the commitment and motivation to inspire pupils' learning and development.
  • Teach young people with Autism or Special Educational Needs within the primary or secondary sector, or develop teaching skills in a special school setting.
  • Maintain high expectations of pupils and work to raise attainment to help them achieve their full potential.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation through imaginative and differentiated lessons that meet individual needs.
  • Apply current assessment practices and use data and pupil progress tracking to ensure all learners make progress.
  • Show emotional and physical resilience when working with young people with a range of complex needs.
  • Build positive relationships with the class group to ensure consistency and daily continuity.
  • Foster good relationships with other staff, pupils, parents and the wider community.
  • Be hardworking, organized and proactive in professional development; be a team player within the New Bridge team.
  • There are opportunities to take on Curriculum Leadership roles.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience of teaching young people with Autism or Special Educational Needs in the primary or secondary sector, or a demonstrated interest in developing teaching skills in a special school setting.
  • Ability to work with high expectations and a commitment to raising standards of attainment.
  • Experience with assessment practices, data use and pupil progress tracking to ensure progress for all learner groups.
  • Emotional and physical resilience when working with pupils with complex needs.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents and the wider community.
  • Hardworking, organized and proactive in professional development; a collaborative team player.

The post is subject to pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS, satisfactory references and proof of right to work in the UK. It will be exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
