Location: New Barn School – River View House, Newbury, Berkshire RG14 2PS

Salary: £23,638 per annum (not pro‑rate)

Hours: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday

Contract: Permanent – Term Time Only

Start date: September 2026

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Support pupils with SEMH and additional needs to engage positively in learning.
  • Work alongside teachers to deliver engaging and personalised learning activities.
  • Provide one‑to‑one and small group support tailored to individual pupil needs.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing and structured learning environment.
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour development.
  • Prepare learning resources and assist with classroom activities.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a passionate multi‑disciplinary team focused on achieving the best outcomes for every pupil.

About You

  • Holds GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent.
  • Has experience as a Teaching Assistant or working with children and young people (SEN experience desirable).
  • Has an interest in supporting pupils with SEMH, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and additional needs.
  • Builds positive, trusting relationships with young people.
  • Is patient, adaptable and resilient when faced with challenges.
  • Embraces a therapeutic and nurturing approach to supporting learning and behaviour.
  • Works well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
