Speech and Language Therapist in Welford

Location: New Barn School - Berkshire RG20 8HZ

Salary: Up to £53,200 pro rata (DOE)

Hours / Contract: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm. Permanent (term‑time only, with flexibility around full‑time contract discussed based on personal circumstances).

Overview: Outcomes First Group invites a Speech and Language Therapist to join our multidisciplinary clinical team at New Barn School. You will work collaboratively with teaching staff to deliver bespoke assessment and intervention for pupils who may have experienced developmental trauma, be neuro‑divergent or have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) assessment and intervention in line with OFG SALT Ways of Working and professional standards.
• Hold a caseload of pupils, providing individualised support plans and therapeutic interventions.
• Work collaboratively with the education team and multidisciplinary colleagues to promote pupil independence and progress.
• Contribute to staff training, observation and consultation as required.
• Maintain a strong safeguarding culture and uphold pupil welfare at all times.
• Keep current professional knowledge through CPD, supported by a £2,000 training allowance.

Essential Criteria:

• Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
• HCPC registered.
• Experience engaging with individuals presenting complex and diverse communication profiles.
• Knowledge of neurodiversity and trauma‑informed practice.
• Experience of multi‑disciplinary work across settings.
• Ability to communicate effectively with families, relatives and carers.
• Interest in developing knowledge and skills in diverse areas of SALT practice.
• Strong relationship‑building, analytical and judgement skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Good time‑management and organisational skills.
• Competency in core areas of SALT practice, with a clear understanding of RCSLT Communication Standards.
• Knowledge of SALT assessment tools, intervention types and formulation of support plans.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for clinical practice.
• Willingness to work collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team.
• Willingness to attend training and work towards further qualifications relevant to the client group.

Desirable Criteria:

• Understanding of sensory and motor differences impacting communication.
• Evidence of understanding the relationship between arousal levels and communication.
• Full driving licence and access to a car (highly desirable).
