Maintenance Engineer & Stores Manager
We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer & Stores Manager to join a busy manufacturing operation in Rochester.
This is a varied role combining hands‑on maintenance engineering with responsibility for the engineering stores, ensuring production machinery is maintained effectively while engineering stock and spares are accurately managed.
You will be responsible for responding to breakdowns, completing planned preventative maintenance, supporting continuous improvement and ensuring the engineering stores remain organised, well‑stocked and fully up to date.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance Engineering
- Attend machinery breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
- Carry out reactive and planned preventative maintenance across production machinery.
- Complete PPM tasks and daily maintenance checks within required timescales.
- Use the CMMS system to manage work orders, maintenance tasks and engineering spares.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements around efficiency, performance, safety, quality and waste reduction.
- Support the training and development of other team members where required.
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with hygiene, food safety, health & safety and legal requirements.
- Maintain tools and equipment to a safe working standard.
- Build strong working relationships with the Operations team.
- Provide engineering support to other maintenance teams as required.
- Engineering Stores Management
- Work closely with the Engineering team to understand asset, PPM and spare parts requirements.
- Manage and maintain an organised, accessible and efficient engineering stores area.
- Ensure appropriate levels of engineering spares are available when required.
- Maintain accurate and auditable records covering orders, purchasing and outstanding deliveries.
- Produce reports covering stock reconciliation, stock accuracy and stock turnover.
- Coordinate purchasing of parts required for reactive maintenance work.
- Manage re-ordering of stock in line with agreed minimum and maximum stock levels.
- Set up and complete regular cyclical stocktaking.
- Ensure all stores activities comply with health & safety requirements.
- The Ideal Candidate
- Demonstrable experience in a maintenance engineering role, ideally with responsibility for engineering stores.
- Previous experience within food manufacturing would be advantageous.
