Are you ready to lead the transformation of a pioneering neurological rehabilitation service and help shape the future of Speech and Language Therapy? Our Birmingham centre is transitioning to Active Neuro, the newly launched division of Active Care Group, creating an exciting opportunity to redefine how specialist neurological rehabilitation is delivered.
At a pivotal stage in its journey, we’re looking for an ambitious Lead Speech and Language Therapist who sees opportunity where others see challenge — someone who is motivated by the chance to influence change, raise clinical standards, and help transform a service into one recognised for excellence. This is far more than a leadership role; it’s an opportunity to make a lasting impact. You’ll play a key role in developing the Speech and Language Therapy service, inspiring your team, embedding evidence-based practice, and creating a culture focused on collaboration, innovation and exceptional patient outcomes.
You’ll join at a time of significant investment across our neurorehabilitation division, including the development of a purpose-built, state-of-the-art neurorehabilitation gym featuring advanced rehabilitation technology, robotics and specialist treatment spaces. As part of the therapy leadership team, you’ll have the opportunity to influence the development of this exciting new facility and help shape the future of rehabilitation delivery at Active Neuro.
If you’re passionate about leading change, developing people and creating a service you can be proud of, this is your opportunity to leave a lasting legacy in neurological rehabilitation.
The Role: As part of our transition to Active Neuro, the therapy service is evolving into a seven-day model of care to better support the rehabilitation needs of our clients. As a result, occasional pre-arranged weekend working will be required. You will also be expected to work Bank Holidays as required by the service, with enhanced pay provided in line with company policy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver highly specialist SLT assessment and intervention for clients with complex physical, cognitive, communication and behavioural difficulties following neurological injury or illness.
- Lead on the development and delivery of evidence-based therapy programmes, working collaboratively with the wider MDT to achieve the best outcomes for patients.
- Independently plan, deliver and evaluate communication therapy groups, ensuring practice is innovative and patient-centred.
- Uphold and model the highest standards of clinical care, ensuring practice reflects current national guidance and best practice.
- Take responsibility as Key Worker where appropriate, driving joined-up goal-setting, therapy planning and discharge coordination.
- Provide professional leadership, supervision and mentorship to junior SLTs and assistants, supporting their clinical development in line with ACG policy.
- Take an active role in the induction, education and training of interdisciplinary team members.
- Ensure compliance with professional codes of practice, governance frameworks and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to service development, policy implementation and quality improvement initiatives within SLT and across the wider therapy service.
- Take responsibility for safeguarding within your practice — ensuring people are protected from harm, empowered to have a voice, and that their human rights are always upheld.
About you: For this role, you will need:
- HCPC registration.
- Previous experience of working in a neurorehabilitation setting and in dysphagia assessment and management.
- The ability to supervise and mentor junior SLTs and assistants.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS. We also want to ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable facilities to participate in job applications or interviews to perform essential job functions. To support this, we are a Disability Confident employer. At Active Care Group we want everyone to feel welcome and supported. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences.
