Rate of Pay: £22.00 - £24.00 per hour, depending on experience

Essential Criteria:

  • A recognised teaching, tutoring, or training qualification, such as Level 3 Award in Education and Training, Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training, Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, Cert Ed, or PGCE
  • Previous experience delivering Functional Skills, Maths and English within an alternative provision, SEND, SEMH, or post-16 education setting

Who we’re looking for:

We are seeking a confident and experienced Freelance Functional Skills Tutor to join our growing Alternative Education provision within KEYFORT Group. This is a non-traditional tutoring role, requiring confidence, resilience, adaptability, and creativity. The successful candidate must be confident supporting students with a range of needs, including SEND, SEMH needs, anxiety, trauma, and other barriers to education.

This role is suited to an experienced tutor or education professional seeking flexible freelance work in a meaningful setting. You will deliver engaging, person-centered Functional Skills Maths and English sessions from Entry Level to Level 1, helping students build confidence, develop core literacy and numeracy skills, and work towards meaningful progress at a pace that suits their individual needs.

Collaboration will be key. You will work alongside Qualified Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, our SEND Lead, Coordinators, families, Local Authorities, schools, and external professionals, where appropriate, to ensure a holistic, person-centered approach.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging Functional Skills Maths and English sessions from Entry Level to Level 1
  • Plan and adapt sessions to meet individual starting points, learning goals, and support needs
  • Use creative and differentiated teaching approaches to support students with SEND, SEMH needs, trauma backgrounds, or other barriers to education
  • Support students to develop literacy, numeracy, confidence, independence, and positive learning habits
  • Monitor progress, gather evidence of learning, and maintain accurate educational records
  • Contribute to learner plans, ILPs, EHCPs, care plans, and transition planning where required
  • Work collaboratively with Qualified Teachers, families, Local Authorities, schools, and internal professionals
  • Support wider education and enrichment activities, including life skills and community-based learning where appropriate
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare, wellbeing, and education of all students at all times
  • Act professionally at all times, following relevant policies, procedures, and safeguarding expectations
