Location: South Shields or Newcastle

Salary: £27 per hour

Contract type: Bank contract available, we are able to guarantee a minimum of 15 hours – working Term time hours only (39 weeks of the year). However, as our alternative education service grows, we foresee these positions becoming contracted with fixed hours.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our developing Alternative Education Service at a pivotal stage of growth. We are working closely with North Tyneside Council to support students who are currently outside of mainstream education and benefit from a bespoke, highly personalised approach. You will deliver engaging, person-centred learning from our tailored curriculum, supporting students to overcome barriers to education while developing independence, confidence, emotional regulation and life skills. This role is ideal for a teacher seeking a fresh challenge, or a supply teacher looking for something more consistent and meaningful — where you can truly see the impact of your work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver good to outstanding teaching in line with the Ofsted framework and National Curriculum guidance
  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs
  • Adapt learning approaches creatively to support students with SEND, SEMH needs and trauma backgrounds
  • Monitor progress, gather evidence of learning, and maintain accurate educational records
  • Contribute to and review ILPs, EHCPs, care plans and transition plans
  • Support enrichment activities including community-based learning, life skills development and practical sessions
  • Work collaboratively with families, Local Authorities and internal professionals
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare, wellbeing and education of all students at all times

What We’re Looking For

  • A qualified teacher (QTS essential) with at least two years of teaching experience
  • Experience working with children of KS3 who may be verbal or non-verbal with an ASD diagnosis
  • A strong understanding of differentiated and person-centred teaching
  • A calm, flexible and solution-focused approach
  • Excellent communication skills when working with families and professionals
  • A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people who have struggled in traditional education settings

Due to community elements as part of the teaching role, you will need to drive and have access to your vehicle for community teaching outings.
