We are seeking a compassionate, motivated and proactive Rehabilitation Assistant to join a specialist support package, working alongside an individual who is progressing through a rehabilitation journey following a traumatic brain injury. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a meaningful role in supporting someone to achieve their rehabilitation goals, maximise independence, and improve their quality of life.

Working collaboratively with the individual, their family, and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will help implement therapeutic strategies and support progress towards agreed outcomes and milestones. The individual you will work with is a very sociable person who enjoys a laugh, is caring, thoughtful and trustworthy, and is active, curious and interested in how things work. They love spending time with family and friends, making things (particularly woodworking), farming, undertaking projects at home, DIY, being outdoors, walking, and nature. They enjoy watching films or series, socialising with friends and family, cooking/baking, and going out for meals.

The successful candidate will provide structured, person-centred support that promotes independence, confidence, skill development and community engagement, while encouraging the individual to take an active role in their own rehabilitation journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prompting for safe support for everyday tasks and to increase risk awareness.
  • Building weekly routines.
  • Initiating/prompting for daily medication.
  • Initiating/prompting daily tasks: cleaning, washing, meals, walking the dog, sorting Shetland pony, therapy support, personal care, food shop, gardening, visiting friends & family, supporting with hobbies.
  • Attending appointments and therapy sessions.
  • Assisting in numeracy and writing.
  • Building on physical progression and cognition, particularly initiation.
  • Supporting in opening and expanding the person's experiences.
  • Supporting on re-building social understanding, and providing guidance where needed.
  • Providing emotional support and engaging in meaningful conversations.
  • Supporting getting back into work environments.
  • Supporting in therapy sessions (OT, Speech and Language, Physio, Hydro pool) and working with therapy that is handed over daily.

Whilst previous rehabilitation experience would be beneficial, we are equally interested in candidates who can demonstrate relevant transferable skills and a genuine passion for supporting others to achieve their potential. You may have experience within:

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

The following would be advantageous but are not essential:

  • Experience supporting individuals with neurological conditions, brain injuries or stroke.
  • Experience working within rehabilitation or recovery-focused environments.
  • Relevant qualifications in Health & Social Care, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Physiotherapy or related disciplines.
  • Experience supporting individuals to achieve goals and develop independence.
  • Knowledge of focal seizures, shunts and signs of complications.
  • Experience supporting individuals with visual impairment.
  • Experience managing executive dysfunction and dysexecutive syndrome.
  • Understanding of spasticity in muscles.

Full training will be provided for the successful candidate but you must be able to drive.
