A growing contractor operating across civil engineering and infrastructure is seeking an Estimator to join its pre‑construction team. This role will focus on preparing accurate and commercially sound cost estimates for a range of construction and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams, suppliers and subcontractors to support tender submissions and help secure new business opportunities. This position would suit someone with a strong understanding of estimating within a civil engineering or construction environment, who is comfortable working in a fast‑paced pre‑contract setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates based on drawings, specifications and tender information
- Review tender documentation and identify scope, risks and pricing requirements
- Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers, subcontractors and other external partners
- Build up pricing for labour, materials, plant, preliminaries and subcontract packages
- Assist in the preparation of tender submissions and supporting commercial documentation
- Contribute to pricing reviews, bid discussions and internal handover processes
- Liaise with operational, commercial and technical teams during the estimating process
- Attend meetings or site visits where required to support bid preparation
- Maintain clear and accurate estimating records and supporting information
- Support continuous improvement of estimating methods, pricing accuracy and bid quality
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience in an estimating role within civil engineering, construction, infrastructure or a related sector
- Good understanding of tendering, pricing and cost build‑up principles
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and other technical documents
- Experience working with estimating software and Microsoft Office
- Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills
- Able to manage deadlines and prioritise work across multiple tenders
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
- Organised, accurate and proactive approach to work
Desirable background: Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
