The work
Depending on the employer and project portfolio, opportunities may involve supporting utility-scale battery energy storage projects from design development through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
Typical responsibilities may include:
- Reviewing electrical designs, specifications, drawings and technical documentation.
- Supporting the delivery of battery energy storage and associated balance-of-plant systems.
- Coordinating with civil, mechanical, grid, controls and construction teams.
- Reviewing single-line diagrams, cable schedules, equipment layouts and protection requirements.
- Supporting the specification and procurement of transformers, switchgear, inverters, cables and auxiliary systems.
- Managing technical queries and resolving engineering issues during construction.
- Monitoring contractors, suppliers and specialist consultants.
- Supporting factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing and commissioning activities.
- Tracking project progress, technical risks, programme requirements and design changes.
- Ensuring work is completed in accordance with applicable standards, project specifications and health and safety requirements.
- Producing technical reports and communicating progress to project stakeholders.
Your background
We are interested in speaking with engineers who have worked on one or more of the following:
- Battery energy storage systems.
- Utility-scale solar or renewable energy projects.
- High-voltage substations and grid connections.
- Power generation or electrical infrastructure.
- Industrial or mission-critical electrical projects.
You are likely to have:
- A degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering.
- Experience supporting the design or delivery of electrical projects.
- Knowledge of medium-voltage or high-voltage electrical systems.
- The ability to review technical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Experience working with contractors, suppliers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- The confidence to manage several technical priorities at the same time.
Experience with the following would be particularly relevant:
- BESS inverters, transformers and containerised battery systems.
- Protection and control systems.
- SCADA and communications interfaces.
- Electrical balance-of-plant design.
- Distribution network operator requirements.
- Construction supervision or site commissioning.
- UK electrical standards and grid-compliance requirements.
