Lead the evolution of a breakthrough medical device into large-scale real-world use. Neupulse has developed a breakthrough neuromodulation medical device that helps people with Tourette’s syndrome regain control of their tics. Built on world-leading neuroscience, our technology is approaching UK authorisation and moving into full commercial launch — with strong early demand already in place.

This role exists to take technical ownership beyond initial launch readiness, shaping the ongoing design, evolution, and scale-up of the product so it can be sustained in production and support future generations of the technology.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Chief Engineer / Technical Lead to work closely with our CTO as the senior technical authority for the product — the person who owns how the technology is designed, built, integrated, and evolved. This role sits at the intersection of deep technical execution and technical leadership. It is about owning the engineering reality of a complex, regulated medical device where significant design, system, and integration work still lies ahead, alongside preparation for commercial use.

What Makes This Role Different

This isn’t speculative R&D — and it isn’t “finished” either. The science works and the foundation is in place, but there is meaningful design and engineering work still to be done. You’ll work across design and scale, refining the product while preparing it for real-world manufacture and use. You’ll be hands-on and influential. This is a system-level ownership role, not a distant oversight position. You’ll grow with the company. As Neupulse scales, so does the scope and impact of this role. You’ll shape how engineering is done. We’re transitioning from outsourced development to building capability in-house — and you’ll play a central role in that journey.

What You’ll Actually Do

  • Own the technology
  • Act as technical authority across hardware, software, and system integration
  • Lead and refine system and product design as the device moves toward and beyond launch
  • Resolve complex cross-disciplinary issues where design, performance, and compliance intersect
  • Ensure the product is robust, manufacturable, and scalable in production
  • Support launch and beyond
  • Drive the technical execution that underpins regulatory approval and commercial readiness
  • Oversee verification, validation, regulatory submission support, and manufacturing transfer
  • Balance ongoing design evolution with the demands of a regulated production environment
  • Build what comes next
  • Transition critical development work from external partners into an internal team
  • Establish strong engineering, configuration, and documentation practices
  • Mentor engineers and set a high bar for technical quality, ownership, and delivery

Who This Role Is For

This role is ideal if you are:

  • A senior engineer or technical lead ready to step into a Chief Engineer role
  • Strong in hardware, with a solid understanding of software and system-level design
  • Experienced delivering medical devices where design, regulation, and manufacture overlap
  • Comfortable being hands-on while also setting technical direction
  • Motivated by ownership, complexity, and building something that will continue to evolve

Why Neupulse

  • Commercial traction with real engineering work ahead — not a science project, not a finished product
  • Purpose with substance — your decisions affect real patients’ lives
  • Trust and autonomy — you’ll be empowered to make decisions that matter
  • Long-term opportunity — as the product and platform expand, so does the leadership scope of this role

Practical Details

  • Location: Basingstoke, UK (on-site, working closely with the CTO)
  • Eligibility: You must already have the right to work in the UK
  • Package: Competitive salary and benefits, reflecting the importance of the role
