Neupulse is entering a pivotal stage of growth. After years of product development, research, and technical validation, our neurotechnology platform is now launching commercially as a wellness device, while progressing through the pathway toward full medical device approval. Our technology has the potential to make a meaningful difference to people living with Tourette’s and related neurological conditions, helping improve quality of life through accessible, evidence-led neurostimulation technology.
We are now looking for a commercially-minded, technically credible CTO with a strong background in medical device electronics, firmware, and software engineering to take the platform to its next stage – scaling the technology, shaping the roadmap, building the engineering capability, and leading the transition from product development into global deployment. This is not a “maintain the status quo” CTO role. It is an opportunity to take ownership of a genuinely innovative connected medical technology platform at the point where technology, regulation, manufacturing, and commercialisation begin to converge.
The Opportunity
As CTO, you will work closely with the founders and leadership team to define and execute the long-term technology strategy for Neupulse. The platform foundation is already in place:
- Embedded electronics and firmware
- Cloud infrastructure
- Regulatory and quality systems
- Outsourced development partnerships
- An imminent commercial launch
The next phase is about scale. You will lead the evolution of the engineering organisation as the business moves toward:
- International markets
- Stronger in-house technical capability
This role requires someone who can operate strategically while remaining deeply credible technically – someone equally comfortable discussing electronics architecture, embedded firmware, cloud-connected applications, manufacturing readiness, and regulatory pathways.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Technology & Product Leadership
- Define and execute the long‑term technology roadmap across hardware, embedded electronics, firmware, software, cloud infrastructure, and connected applications
- Lead the evolution of the Neupulse platform from early‑stage product into scalable global technology infrastructure
- Align technology decisions with commercial priorities, regulatory milestones, and customer outcomes
- Drive product reliability, scalability, cybersecurity, and operational excellence
Medical Device Development & Regulatory Readiness
- Lead the technical pathway toward medical device approval across key global markets
- Own technical engagement with regulatory bodies, notified bodies, test houses, and external compliance partners
- Ensure development activities align with standards including ISO 13485, IEC 62304, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, and related frameworks
- Maintain oversight of technical files, verification activities, design controls, and product lifecycle processes
- Provide technical leadership across internal teams and external development partners
- Own technical decision‑making, systems architecture, engineering standards, and delivery quality
- Build a clear roadmap for how engineering capability evolves over time, including the balance between outsourced and internal development
- Improve development velocity, release quality, manufacturability, and operational performance across the platform
- Establish scalable engineering processes and delivery practices appropriate for a growing medical technology business
Team & Organisational Growth
- Build and develop a high‑performing engineering function over time
- Create clarity, accountability, and technical direction across contributors and partners
- Help shape the company’s broader product and innovation strategy alongside the leadership team
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who combines:
- Strong technical depth in medical device electronics, firmware, and software engineering
- Commercial awareness
- The ability to scale technology organisations through growth
You will likely have:
- A background in medical device electronics engineering, embedded firmware, software engineering, or related regulated product development environments
- Significant experience developing connected electronic medical devices, including hardware, firmware, and software systems
- Experience taking electronic medical devices through regulatory approval and into market
- Strong understanding of medical device standards including ISO 13485, IEC 62304, ISO 14971, and IEC 60601
- Experience overseeing hardware, firmware, and software development activities
- Experience managing external development partners, suppliers, and manufacturing relationships
- A strong understanding of connected systems including mobile applications, cloud platforms, wireless connectivity, and device integration
- Experience building or scaling engineering teams and technology functions
- The ability to operate effectively in a fast‑moving, commercially‑focused environment
Why This Role Matters
This is an opportunity to join at a defining moment:
- Commercial launch is imminent
- The platform is established
- Global ambitions are real
The right person will play a central role in shaping not only the technology, but the future direction of the business itself — helping bring innovative neurotechnology to people who could genuinely benefit from it.
Location
Hybrid role based in Basingstoke, with regular on‑site collaboration expected.
