We're looking for a Regulatory Advisor to join NeuConnect and help shape the regulatory frameworks of one of Europe's most ambitious energy infrastructure projects. NeuConnect is building the first direct power link between the UK and Germany and one of the world’s longest interconnectors – 720km of HVDC subsea cable, 1.4GW of capacity, and a £2.4bn project that's now well into construction. As we move from the build phase towards live operations, we need someone who can bring a structured approach to compliance with and influencing of regulatory frameworks, and can grow with us into the role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Owning specific aspects of NeuConnect’s core regulatory framework: capacity calculation and allocation, UK cap and floor, German economic regulation and/or EU markets regulation.
- Leading on the regulatory side of capacity monetisation, developing and maintaining the rules for auction participation and leading these through consultation and approval processes.
- Managing NeuConnect’s licence and certification obligations and ensure a successful completion of the post-construction review (PCR).
- Delivering high quality, external facing reporting on NeuConnect’s construction and operational progress.
- Developing methodologies, positions, consultation responses and regulatory decision papers, ensuring internal and external stakeholders are well informed.
- Leading NeuConnect’s input to the UK-EU IEM integration work, participating in industry working groups and advocating for NeuConnect’s positions.
- Representing NeuConnect towards regulators (Ofgem, BNetzA), ACER, other TSOs (TenneT, NESO) and other industry stakeholders.
- Monitoring regulatory developments and keeping internal stakeholders ahead of upcoming issues, risks and mitigations.
- Supporting the wider team in NeuConnect on the regulatory aspects of operational topics.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- 2–6 years of experience in energy markets, trading, or grid management - you know how the sector moves.
- Solid knowledge of electricity market frameworks, ideally from working with UK or EU interconnectors, TSOs, or similar.
- Comfortable owning a defined area of responsibility while staying flexible as priorities shift through commissioning and into operations.
- A genuine team player, you share information freely and work naturally across technical, legal, and financial colleagues.
- Strong communicator in English; German language skills would be highly beneficial.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in economics, engineering, law, politics or business, or equivalent experience.
