We are working with a growing engineering organisation delivering high-voltage infrastructure projects across the UK. Due to continued project wins, we are seeking experienced Commissioning Engineers to support the delivery and energisation of HV substation projects nationwide.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a business involved in critical power infrastructure, renewable energy connections, and grid reinforcement projects. The role will involve travel and regular stays away from home, with accommodation and expenses provided where applicable.

The Role

As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe planning, execution, and documentation of commissioning activities on HV electrical systems and substations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and carrying out commissioning activities on HV substation projects
  • Testing and commissioning primary and secondary plant equipment
  • Conducting protection relay testing and verification
  • Producing commissioning documentation, test records, and reports
  • Supporting energisation activities and witnessing procedures
  • Liaising with clients, DNOs, ICPs, and project delivery teams
  • Ensuring all works are completed in accordance with industry standards and safety requirements
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues during commissioning phases
  • Supporting site acceptance testing and handover activities

Requirements

  • Experience commissioning HV electrical infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of substation equipment and protection systems
  • Experience with transmission or distribution network projects
  • Knowledge of industry standards and commissioning procedures
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and protection settings
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel extensively and stay away from home during project delivery

Desirable

  • Senior Authorised Person (SAP) experience
  • National Grid, DNO, or ICP project experience
  • Experience working on projects from 11kV through to 132kV and above
  • Relevant electrical engineering qualifications (HNC/HND, Degree, NVQ, or equivalent)
