Are you a skilled and practical maintenance professional looking for a varied role where no two days are the same? We are seeking a Maintenance Operative to join our Estates team and help maintain a safe, welcoming and high-quality environment across our college campuses. Working as part of a dedicated Estates team, you will provide a responsive first-line maintenance and repair service across our buildings and facilities. This hands-on role involves carrying out a wide range of maintenance tasks, ensuring our learning and working environments remain safe, functional and fit for purpose. You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation, delivering excellent customer service while maintaining high standards of health and safety.

We are looking for 2 roles - Full Time and Part Time!

  • Part Time: Actual Salary: £10,489.86 - £10,779.30 per annum. Working Pattern: 15 hours a week / Tuesday & Thursday 8.30am - 5pm.
  • Full Time: Working Pattern: 35.5 hours a week Monday - Thursday 8:30am - 5pm / Friday 8.30am - 4pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out first-line repairs and maintenance across college premises and facilities.
  • Undertake joinery tasks including repairs to doors, locks, fixtures, fittings and other building components.
  • Complete minor plumbing, heating, wall tiling and drainage repairs.
  • Respond to maintenance requests raised through the facilities helpdesk system and complete associated documentation.
  • Assist with emergency repairs following break-ins, vandalism or damage, including temporary boarding and remedial works.
  • Maintain stock levels, order materials and keep records up to date.
  • Work safely at all times, following health and safety procedures and completing risk assessments where required.
  • Travel between college sites and drive college vehicles when necessary.
  • Support colleagues across the Estates team and contribute to maintaining a professional and customer-focused service.

Essential Criteria

  • Recognised qualification in a building maintenance, construction or trade-related discipline, with multi-trade skills including joinery, plumbing and domestic-scale heating controls.
  • Relevant maintenance experience with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and meet deadlines.
  • Physical fitness to meet the demands of the role.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional and customer-focused approach.
