We have an exciting role on offer within our Legal and Democratic Service as a Governance Lawyer. Middlesbrough Council's Legal Services team is committed to delivering high quality legal advice and support that enables the Council to achieve its strategic priorities and deliver excellent services for the people of Middlesbrough.

We are now seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated governance lawyer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the Council's governance framework and decision-making processes. Working closely with the Monitoring Officer you will provide legal and governance advice to senior officers and key decision-makers across the organisation.

The successful applicant will have experience of local government governance matters and demonstrate excellent drafting, communication and advisory skills. You will be confident in providing pragmatic legal advice, building effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, and supporting high-profile decision-making within a complex public sector environment.

Your work will include advising on constitutional and governance matters, Council and committee procedures, standards and ethical governance issues, member conduct matters, scrutiny and executive decision-making arrangements, as well as wider legal work undertaken within Legal Services.
