We’re looking for an organised and proactive Finance Operations Assistant to join our Finance team at Poundstretcher in Leicester on an initial 3-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their finance experience within a fast-paced retail environment.
You’ll support the day-to-day Finance Operations function across Accounts Payable, Treasury , while also assisting our Management Accountants with month-end and year-end processes.
You’ll also help with audit requirements, resolve supplier and internal queries, and work closely with colleagues across the business.
Strong communication, attention to detail and the ability to manage priorities are important for this role.
We’re looking for someone who is comfortable working with numbers and has intermediate Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Accounts Payable invoices accurately and on time.
- Support treasury activities, including payment runs and cash management.
Assist Management Accountants with month-end and year-end close activities.
- Support internal and external audit requirements by providing accurate information and documentation.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve invoice discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Communicate effectively with suppliers, internal departments, and stakeholders to resolve queries promptly.
- Provide general support to the Finance team and assist with continuous process improvements.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in Accounts Payable and finance operations.
- Understanding of accruals, prepayments, and treasury processes.
- Good knowledge of month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- High attention to detail with excellent organisational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and finance systems.
- Ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
