We’re looking for an experienced Team Leader with proven management experience to join Field Studies Council Millport. In this senior role, you’ll manage and mentor a passionate education team, oversee curriculum delivery, and contribute to the strategic management of the centre alongside the Centre Manager.
Permanent full-time contract – average 37.5 hours per week. Weekly hours may vary—more during busy periods, less during quieter times. Starting salary is circa £33,357 per annum.

You will:
- Lead and manage the education team, providing guidance, mentoring, performance management, and professional development.
- Develop, plan, and oversee the delivery of high-quality curriculum-linked learning experiences that increase students’ understanding of nature and the environment.
- Support the Centre Manager in running the day-to-day operations of the centre and contribute to strategic planning.
- Participate in some hands-on teaching in the field, working with students of all ages on a variety of science and geography programmes.
- Be part of our duty rota which will involve staying on site on some evenings and overnight to deal with customer issues and respond to emergencies.

Where you’ll be based: Field Studies Council Millport is situated on the Isle of Cumbrae in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland. Surrounded by nature, purpose-built teaching spaces, and comfortable accommodation with sea views, the centre offers an inspiring environment to lead, learn, and deliver engaging outdoor education. Its eco-friendly design and access to a Research Vessel allow staff and students to explore the marine environment in unique ways. Millport provides endless opportunities for adventure and discovery. Who we’re looking for: We are seeking an experienced leader with a proven track record of managing and developing teams, with:
- Degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline
- Specialism in Biology or Marine-related subject
- At least 5 years relevant work experience, with the confidence to produce and prepare teaching resources, activities and lesson plans that meet curricular requirements
- Experience in delivery of outdoor Adventure Activities such as climbing, snorkeling/diving, hill/mountain walking and bushcraft
