Staff Nurse (12 Months Maternity Leave Cover)
Are you a compassionate Registered Nurse looking to make a meaningful difference in palliative and end of life care? We're looking for a dedicated Staff Nurse to join our In Patient Centre team, providing exceptional care and support to patients and their families at some of the most important times in their lives.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a 12 month fixed term post to cover maternity leave
About The Role
As a Staff Nurse within our In Patient Centre, you will provide high-quality, holistic nursing care to patients with life-limiting illnesses. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you'll assess, plan, deliver and evaluate person-centred care, ensuring patients receive the highest standard of physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual support.
This is a rewarding opportunity to develop your clinical skills within a specialist palliative care environment while working alongside experienced colleagues who are passionate about delivering outstanding care. You'll also play an important role in supporting and mentoring less experienced staff, contributing to service development, and promoting best practice throughout the hospice.
About You
You will be a Registered General Nurse with post-registration experience and a genuine commitment to providing compassionate, dignified and person-centred care. You'll have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build positive relationships with patients, families and colleagues, particularly during challenging and sensitive situations.
You'll be confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team, able to prioritise effectively in a dynamic environment, and committed to continuous learning and professional development. Experience of palliative care is desirable, but we also welcome applications from nurses who are passionate about developing their skills within this specialist area.
What You'll Be Doing
- Assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating high-quality nursing care for patients within the In Patient Centre.
- Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to develop and review individualised care plans.
- Supporting patients and families with information, guidance and emotional support.
- Administering and managing medicines safely in line with NMC standards and hospice policies.
- Maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records.
- Managing and responding to clinical risks, incidents and changing patient needs.
- Acting as a role model and supporting the development of junior and unqualified staff.
- Participating in clinical audit, research and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contributing to service development and the ongoing delivery of evidence-based practice.
- Supporting the education, induction and mentorship of new team members and students.
- Taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of the unit when acting as Nurse in Charge.
What We're Looking For
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) qualification and current NMC registration.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Understanding of the palliative care approach.
- Knowledge of clinical governance, risk management and evidence-based practice.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a busy clinical environment.
- Commitment to professional development and reflective practice.
- Leadership potential and the ability to support and develop others.
- Commitment to delivering high standards of patient-centred care.
