We're looking for a friendly, caring and reliable Hospitality Assistant to join our team and help create a welcoming environment for patients, families, visitors, volunteers and colleagues across the hospice.
About the role
As a Hospitality Assistant, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality hospitality services throughout the hospice. Working as part of a supportive team, you'll provide food and drinks to patients, visitors and staff, maintain clean and safe hospitality areas, and support the delivery of a positive experience for everyone who visits St Luke's.
This role goes beyond traditional hospitality. You'll work closely with clinical colleagues to support patient wellbeing, ensuring meals and refreshments are delivered with dignity, compassion and care. Every interaction you have will help make a difference to the experience of patients and their loved ones.
This role is for up to 30 hours per week, and we are flexible in accommodating candidates who are looking to work fewer hours.
About you
You'll be someone who genuinely enjoys helping others and takes pride in delivering exceptional customer service. You will be organised, reliable and able to work effectively in a busy environment while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety and professionalism.
You'll understand the importance of treating everyone with kindness and respect and be comfortable communicating with people from all walks of life. Whether working independently or as part of a team, you'll have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and develop your skills.

What you'll be doing
- Providing a warm, friendly and professional hospitality service to patients, visitors, volunteers and staff.
- Serving food, drinks and refreshments across the hospice.
- Supporting patients with meal and drink choices, taking account of dietary requirements and preferences.
- Working closely with catering and clinical teams to ensure patient needs are met safely and effectively.
- Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, infection prevention and health and safety.
- Cleaning, replenishing and maintaining café, beverage and hospitality areas.
- Processing cash and card payments using the till system.
- Monitoring stock levels and ensuring hospitality areas remain well supplied.
- Carrying out daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
- Reporting equipment faults and maintenance issues promptly.
- Participating in team handovers and communicating relevant information appropriately.
- Supporting the induction and ongoing guidance of volunteers and new team members when required.
What we're looking for
- Good knowledge of food hygiene and food safety practices.
- Good knowledge of food and beverage service.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to undertake physical aspects of the role.
- A flexible and positive approach to work.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to use initiative.
- Willingness to undertake training and continuous development.
- NVQ Level 2 in Hospitality (or equivalent), or willingness to work towards this qualification.
- NVQ in Customer Service (or equivalent), or willingness to work towards this qualification.
