Company Overview

UK Networks Services (UKNS) is a specialist grid engineering company delivering high‑voltage electricity network designs and smart grid control systems that enable faster, smarter connections to the UK electricity network. Our PLC‑based control systems are deployed nationwide, from high‑street retail sites to large‑scale data centres and complex energy infrastructure projects.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Field Engineer to install, test, and commission our PLC‑based smart grid control systems across the UK. Full training will be provided on our proprietary control systems. A strong background in electrical installation, inspection, and testing — combined with a desire to develop into advanced control and automation systems — is more important than prior PLC programming experience. The successful candidate will be a qualified electrician with experience in electrical control systems and the competence to act as a NICEIC Qualified Supervisor, including issuing certification under BS 7671.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Carry out site surveys, load studies, and technical assessments on customer sites
  • Install, wire, test, and commission grid control, protection, and automation systems
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, control, and communications faults
  • Complete inspection, testing, and certification in accordance with BS 7671
  • Produce commissioning records, test certificates, and as‑built documentation
  • Ensure all works comply with RAMS, CDM requirements, and company procedures
  • Assemble and test control panels within the workshop when not attending site
  • Travel to customer sites across the UK (typically ~4 overnight stays per month)

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Certifications

  • Fully qualified UK electrician
  • Level 3 NVQ in Electrical Installation
  • AM2 or AM2E
  • ECS Gold Card
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
  • Competent to act as a NICEIC Qualified Supervisor (QS)
  • Proven experience inspecting, testing, and certifying commercial and/or industrial installations

What’s in it for you

  • £40,000 – £60,000 salary depending on experience
  • Company van and fuel card (work use)
  • Enhanced employers pension contributions
  • Salary sacrifice schemes (Bike2work, Electric Vehicles)
  • 25 Days of annual leave plus local bank holidays
  • Paid volunteering days for local clubs or charities
  • £300 available for sponsorship allowance for a local club or charity
  • Professional registration fees paid annually
  • On-site parking
  • Structured training and development programme

Note: To be eligible for this job you must have the right to work in the UK, we currently do not sponsor applications for employment visa status.
