London Fire Brigade (LFB) is London’s fire and rescue service – one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world. We are here to make London a safer city. Employing over 5000 people across our operational team (our firefighters), control (our call handlers who answer 999 calls), fire safety and our non‑operational team (our team who work behind the scenes to support our front‑line services, which includes Fleet, IT, HR, Finance, Procurement, Communications team and many more).
As a Senior Project Manager, you’ll play a key role within the Brigade’s Portfolio Management function, working alongside Project, Programme and Change Managers, the Programme Management Office and the Portfolio Office. Together, this community shapes and delivers the Brigade’s most important and high‑impact change initiatives. You’ll lead one or more complex projects from end to end, working closely with senior sponsors to bring clarity, structure and momentum to delivery. This includes coordinating multiple workstreams, managing risks and dependencies, overseeing budgets and resources, and ensuring projects deliver real, lasting value across their full lifecycle.
Our projects are typically high‑profile, cross‑cutting and strategically significant, often spanning multiple directorates and disciplines. They make a tangible difference to how the Brigade operates and how it serves London’s communities. We’re looking for adaptable, confident professionals who enjoy working across a wide range of subject areas and who can quickly build credibility in different environments. You’ll be comfortable navigating complexity, bringing people together, and tailoring your approach to teams with varying levels of project management maturity. Collaboration sits at the heart of this role. You’ll work with a broad and diverse range of stakeholders across the Fire and Rescue Service, engaging effectively with colleagues from both operational and professional backgrounds. You’ll also champion the Brigade’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, helping to create inclusive project environments where people can do their best work.

Assessment Overview
- Experience managing strategic, multi‑disciplinary, highly complex projects to deliver on time and within budget using recognised project management methodologies.
- Experience of working with a range of internal and external stakeholders including those at a senior level.
- Experience of supervising and coaching others in applying project management principles.
- Expert project and time management skills with the ability to deliver to tight deadlines and to manage and prioritise workload to reflect changing demands and resources.
- Excellent knowledge of a range of project management tools and methodology and an understanding of how to apply them appropriately.
