Reporting to: Senior Policy Manager
Responsible for: No line management responsibilities at the present time, however there may be a future opportunity to line manage.
About the role
The Strategy and Policy Team is part of the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Corporate Services Directorate. The successful candidate will play a key role within the team, which incorporates policy and strategy support across Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) functions. The team works on a remote basis with the occasional requirement to attend meetings or events in London or other locations around the UK on a semi-regular basis. The Strategy and Policy Team work closely with subject matter experts, insight analysts, and communications colleagues across NFCC to support and produce policy advice, positions, and content. Through the timely and clear production of evidence-based advice, our primary objective is to support national policy development, with the aim of improving the safety of the communities we serve.
What you will be doing
- Lead the development of policy advice, positions, and responses to Government across a range of topics, including operational preparedness and response, fire reform, climate change, emerging technologies, the NFCC strategy, and cultural improvement.
- Be part of a team producing policy products for UK FRSs across all areas of FRS activities and engage with UK FRSs to ensure policies and national positions reflect members’ views.
- Collaborate with technical, communications, data, and governance colleagues from other NFCC teams.
- Contribute to preparation of research reports, impact assessments, cost-benefit analyses of policy options, equality impact assessments, and presentation of data where relevant.
