Pay: Starting salary of up to £42,523 (includes an average (non-guaranteed) overtime payment of £3,500 per annum). Basic salary: £34,434 per annum rising by annual increments to £37,280. Annual tool allowance: £469.44. Annual out of hours scheme: £4,119.74.
Annual leave: Generous annual leave of 27 days per annum, plus 8 bank holidays. Pro‑rated dependent on start date. Annual leave rises to 30 days per annum after five years’ service.
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, plus one week a month on call. Workshop Hours: Monday to Thursday: 08:00 to 16:30; Friday: 08:00 to 13:00.

About the Role
We are looking for a Vehicle Technician to join our team at the Bowerhill Workshop in Melksham, Wiltshire. The workshop supports fire stations with fleet and equipment from Salisbury up to Cricklade, with occasional support in Dorset. In this role you will be responsible for carrying out inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of a wide range of vehicles and associated operational equipment, such as fire appliances and specialist rescue equipment, ensuring all work is completed to the required standard. Specialist training will be provided, including Scania FBT One, Two and Three, Rosenbauer maintainers course and Godiva pump repair training. Some courses are outside the service area and may require overnight stays. You will play a significant role in ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory and best‑practice standards within the workshop.
Requirements
- Full current driving licence and ability to fulfil travel requirements. Use of your own vehicle will be required. Service vehicle will be available for daily maintenance duties and out of hours breakdowns (manual transmission only).
- A Category C licence is required but if you do not hold it we can consider a course.
- Willingness to participate in the emergency out of hours scheme, providing support during evenings and weekends one week a month with appropriate remuneration.

- Standard Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) clearance will be undertaken prior to offer of employment.
- Full pre‑employment checks, including identity, right to work, medical, references, employment history and gap explanation within the last 3 years.
- Adherence to Health Surveillance Programme and attendance of an Occupational Health appointment for baseline readings.
