Overview
We are seeking an experienced OT Enterprise Solutions Engineer to lead the development and evolution of enterprise Operational Technology (OT) architecture across a complex, global environment. This role is responsible for defining the future-state architecture, ensuring alignment across technology, engineering, security and operational teams, and translating strategic objectives into practical, deliverable solutions. Working within established architecture governance, you will act as the technical authority for OT architecture, driving standardisation, integration and best practice across a diverse estate that includes corporate facilities, critical infrastructure and operational environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and develop the enterprise OT architecture strategy, roadmap and target-state designs.
- Define architecture principles, standards, reference architectures and design patterns.
- Lead the integration of OT with IT, IoT, cloud and edge technologies while maintaining appropriate security and operational boundaries.
- Ensure architecture aligns with business objectives, resilience, safety, security and operational requirements.
- Apply industry standards, including IEC 62443, to deliver secure-by-design OT solutions.
- Chair and contribute to architecture governance, design reviews and technical decision-making.
- Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity, operations and delivery teams to produce integrated end-to-end solutions.
- Provide architectural guidance throughout delivery, from concept through implementation and transition into service.
- Identify and manage architecture risks, dependencies and technical decisions.
- Evaluate supplier solutions and ensure technology choices align with enterprise architecture rather than vendor-led designs.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Extensive experience designing enterprise OT/ICS architectures within critical infrastructure, industrial, utilities or manufacturing environments.
- Proven experience leading OT architecture, security and network design across complex programmes.
- Strong understanding of IT/OT convergence and enterprise integration.
- Practical expertise applying IEC 62443 and secure OT architecture principles.
- Knowledge of industrial protocols such as Modbus, OPC-UA, Profinet and DNP3.
- Experience developing architecture standards, governance and reference designs.
- Strong stakeholder management and the ability to influence technical and business leaders.
- Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or SABSA.
Desirable
- Experience within large, highly regulated organisations.
- Knowledge of building management systems, physical security, energy management or data centre technologies.
- Familiarity with NIST CSF, NIST SP 800-82, ISO 27001 or similar security frameworks.
- Experience with legacy OT environments, supplier management and technical assurance.
- Relevant architecture, networking, cybersecurity or IEC 62443 certifications.
Success Measures
Success in this role will be demonstrated through:
- Delivery of a clear and scalable enterprise OT architecture.
- Consistent adoption of architecture standards across programmes.
- Effective integration of security and operational requirements into solution designs.
- Reduced architectural complexity, risk and duplication.
- Successful implementation of architecture through delivery programmes and operational adoption.
