Lead a credible, science-driven strategy to build resilience to increasingly extreme weather patterns into the Wales & Western region's railway.
Provide the strategic lead for the development of the region's weather resilience and climate change adaptation strategy and objectives. Provide the expertise and procedural setting within the Network Rail framework, that will deliver the weather resilience and climate change strategy, including the framework for delivery of weather and climate change projections; integrating weather and climate thresholds into business processes; determining competency/capability and research & development requirements of the business; leading to improvements in short, medium and long term weather resilience of railway operations and provide weather resilience and climate change advice to the business.
Your Main Responsibilities will be to
- Provide strategic direction to the region's executive team. Provide timely and compelling weather resilience and climate change advice rooted in the latest climate science and provide vision and motivational leadership across the business.
- Set the long term functional objectives and framework for weather resilience and climate change delivery across the region in conjunction with key stakeholders in the routes.
- Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of the regions strategy for weather resilience and climate change adaptation
- Lead on developing and embedding weather resilience and climate change requirements and performance measures into business-wide processes and controls to enable the delivery of Network Rail's strategic objectives, maximise business benefits, utilise whole life cost techniques and meet short to long term investment criteria.
- Lead liaison and negotiation with relevant statutory bodies and stakeholders taking into account the business requirements and reputation risks.
- Determine the requirements necessary to comply with statute, external regulations and standards, relating to weather resilience and climate change adaptation and lead on the review and comment on relevant consultations making recommendations to the business.
- Lead engagement with external organisations to influence emerging standards/regulations and identify opportunities for closer collaboration and joint-delivery climate resilience; represent Network Rail and determine requirements for research and development programmes.

Pay and Rewards
Salary: This role is a Band 2.B.: Β£71,163 - Β£86,801per annum.

Your experience and skills
You will ideally have
- Detailed knowledge of weather resilience and climate change adaptation within the context of transport and/or infrastructure businesses
- Influencing and collaboration - ability to influence decision makers at all levels of seniority and collaborate with Route climate resilience and local delivery teams
- Leadership - ability to lead staff/teams to deliver results
- Excellent understanding of current legislation and related policy and regulation relating to weather resilience and climate change adaptation.
- Proven experience in developing strategy relating to weather resilience and climate change in a complex organisation
- Keeping people safe on the railway is at the heart of everything we do. Safe behaviour is therefore a requirement of wor king for Network Rail.You should demonstrate your personal dedication to safety within your application.
What could set you apart
