Overview
Technician (Welding and Grinding) β Reading Napier Road. You will help keep the nation moving by supporting essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users. This role involves outdoor, year-round work in a team, with training provided to work safely and competently.
Responsibilities
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions, supporting essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly.
- Transport and handle equipment as required, often across uneven terrain.
- Collaborate with the team to deliver work safely and to the required standard; check competencies within the team to meet safety standards.
- Lead the team when asked by the team leader, acting as a role model for safe working behaviours and challenging potential safety risks.
Your Skills and Qualifications
- Leadership β able to lead, motivate and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery.
- Effective communicator β strong communication skills to give clear instructions to the team and colleagues.
- Technical skills β knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques in the applicable discipline.
- Safety β consistently model safe behaviours, implement safe systems of work, and challenge unsafe situations.
- Problem solving β persistent in finding safe and effective solutions; stay up to date with new standards, procedures and instructions.
- Willingness to learn β committed to developing skills and competencies relevant to the discipline.
- Relevant qualification β ideally NVQ Level 1 or 2 related to the discipline or equivalent experience.
