We are looking to recruit for Technician and Team Leader roles within our Overhead Line team in the Liverpool & Crewe area. As part of the role, you will undertake inspection, faulting, electrical maintenance and installation.
Overhead Lines (OHL) offers a dynamic and varied role, involving a wide range of tasks. You\’ll work with high-voltage systems to help ensure the railway remains powered and operational. Working at height is a regular part of the job, and you’ll use specialized tools and equipment to measure, adjust, repair, and modify the cables and wires that keep Britain’s railway moving

Please Note: There may be a requirement to work on call in this role if you opt to take the Standard Maintenance Contract.
About The Role (External)
Technician – You will be a key member of the team, carrying out tasks as directed by the Team Leader. This role requires leadership, technical expertise, and oversight of work quality.
You will provide support to the Team Leader to organise and motivate the team so that work is undertaken safely, efficiently and to the relevant standards.Undertake inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal work as allocated and where directed, act as Team Leader.
You’ll also accurately report all work completed/not completed and produce/maintain records as required and control and check the quality of work undertaken and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
Team Leader – In this role we\’ll look to you to direct, organise and motivate a high performing team as well as liaise with the management teams and other department/companies. From inspection and faulting through to maintenance and renewal, you\’ll play a hands-on role.
You\’ll make sure everything is done efficiently and to the relevant standards and controls. You\’ll have experience of establishing the relevant safety arrangements for the tasks and make sure Network Rail staff and contractors alike follow safe systems of work. Proactively controlling and checking the quality of work and the competence of your people, you’ll see to it that assets are fully compliant to the maintenance standards and all vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials are safe & fit for purpose.
Essential Criteria
- Able to work as part of team / Able to lead, motivate and direct a team
- Knowledge and experience of electrical inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques.
- Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post, required by business need.
- Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need
- Have interest or experience in Electrical Engineering
- Be willing to work outdoors in all weather types at any time of the day
- Experience of organising and controlling the safe and efficient delivery of work.
- Desire to always improve yourself and make things better
- Strong communication skills, both in person and in writing
Desirable Criteria
- Already hold a valid PTS
- Previous experience in OHL or working with OHL equipment
- Hold Electrical engineering qualifications from either further education or from previous employment, or be able to demonstrate these principles from experience
This role involves days, nights and weekend working, and is a safety critical role so subject to drug and alcohol testing and passing of the relevant medical assessment.

Salary and benefits:
Salary as below per role:
- Technician IMC25: £37,073
- Team Leader IMC25: £43,997
- Pro-rata annual leave entitlement
