Technicians provide the essential link between the team leader and the team's operatives. For this role you will specialise in Distribution & Plant, working as part of a team to keep power flowing through electrified rails safely and efficiently. Day to day you will work on the nuts, bolts and cables of the electrification system to ensure trains, signals and stations have the power they need. Our technicians work outside in all conditions, day or night. You may be involved in demanding manual work, including transporting kit across tricky terrain. Being safety focused, respectful of rules and a team player is critical as you will often work next to moving trains travelling at high speed. We value safety and leadership. A natural team player, you may also be asked to lead the team when requested by the team leader. You will be a role model for safe working behaviours and confident to challenge any potential risks to safety.

Your Skills Matter

• Leadership: Ability to lead, motivate and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery.
• Effective Communication: Strong communication skills and ability to deliver clear instructions to the team and other colleagues.
• Technical Skills: Knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques in the discipline you are applying for.
• Safety: Consistent role modelling of safe behaviours, ability to arrange and implement safe systems of work, and confidence to challenge unsafe situations.
• Problem Solver: Persistent in finding safe and effective solutions; continually developing relevant skills and keeping up to date with new standards.
• Willingness to Learn: Continuously develop skills and competencies relevant to the discipline.
• Relevant Qualification: Ideally hold an NVQ Level 1 or 2 linked to the discipline, or equivalent experience.

Additional Information

• Shifts: Technician roles involve a changing shift pattern including days, nights and weekends.
• Outdoor working: Comfortable working in all weathers.
• Safe working: Employment offers are subject to drug and alcohol testing, medical assessment, BPSS checks, hearing and eyesight examination.
• Driving: A driving licence (category B) is required to drive Network Rail vehicles.
• Commute: You must be within a 60‑minute commute of the location.

Minimum requirement: C&G 2365 qualification. In addition, relevant qualification as stated above.
