Brief Description
We are Central route. We are the Heart of Britain\’s Railway. More than a million people rely on us every week, and we help transport nearly a million tonnes of freight every month. But we are more than just tracks and trains, we are a catalyst for jobs and opportunities, a connection to leisure and time with family and friends, and a foundation for communities and neighbourhoods.
We are a key part of the national network, with Birmingham New Street – the busiest station outside of London and the hub of the railway – connecting England, Scotland and Wales, with hundreds of services arriving and leaving every day.
Please Note: There may be a requirement to work on call in this role if you opt to take the standard maintenance contract
About The Role (External)
As a Team Leader Track Maintenance, you will direct, organise and motivate a high performing team of Operatives and Technicians. From inspection and faulting through to maintenance and renewal, you\’ll play a hands-on role in ensuring our rails, railway ties (sleepers), fasteners, railway switches, ballast and foundations are in tip top condition to keep passengers and freight moving safely and without interruption.
You\’ll make sure everything is done efficiently and to the highest standards. Safety will be a priority. You\’ll establish appropriate safety arrangements and make sure Network Rail staff and contractors alike follow safe systems of work. Proactively controlling and checking the quality of work and the competence of your people, you\’ll see to it that assets are fully compliant and all vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials are fit for purpose. Along the way, you\’ll compile a range of vital reports.
Our Team Leaders work outside in all conditions, at all times of the year, day or night. You could be involved in demanding manual work, often with the need to transport kit, across tricky terrain.
