Responsibilities

  • Lead geotechnical monitoring and instrumentation activities, ensuring asset safety and performance.
  • Review and specify maintenance and renewal work for geotechnical schemes.
  • Analyse trends in asset condition and failures, taking proactive steps to mitigate risks.
  • Develop route-specific monitoring plans and prioritised investment strategies.
  • Act as the engineering authority for technical approvals and CDM compliance.
  • Support investigations into significant failures and implement preventative measures.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to optimise engineering solutions.
  • Manage supplier relationships and resolve technical and quality issues.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of INSAR/Satellite capabilities for monitoring and experience using GIS software systems.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution.
  • Strong background in railway civil engineering, with expertise in geotechnical and drainage assets.
  • Proven experience in geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, including installation, data collection, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of data acquisition systems, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Hands-on experience with total station surveying units and monitoring instruments (e.g., inclinometers, strain gauges, tiltmeters).
  • Understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.
  • Familiarity with CDM Regulations.
  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent geotechnical qualification. (Desirable)
