About Network Rail

Salary: £43,588 to £51,719 per annum

Location: Leeds

Contract Type: Full Time 12 months secondment

Office Requirement: Hybrid. 3 days per week working from the office

The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a £10.7 billion Programme of activities that is improving the railway between York and Manchester via Leeds and Huddersfield. Proposed improvements will deliver a hard-working, reliable railway for passengers, allowing for trains with more seats, more services and faster journey times. As part of the exciting transformation of the TRU, we are introducing the cutting-edge European Train Control System (ETCS), a revolutionary step forward in digital rail technology.

As a Scheme Project Manager in the Digital Industry Team, you will support the delivery of ETCS solutions across the TRU and wider digital signalling programme. Reporting to a Project Manager, you’ll coordinate multi-disciplinary activity, manage interfaces and support safe, compliant delivery in a fast moving and evolving environment. The role involves working closely with Network Rail teams, delivery partners and train operators across the Passenger, Freight, OTM and Charter & Heritage sectors.

Ideal Candidate: We’re looking for a motivated and curious project professional who is confident, organised and comfortable working in a complex, regulated environment where priorities can change. Strong stakeholder management is essential. You’ll be able to build trusted relationships, influence without authority and apply sound judgement when managing uncertainty, enabling safe, aligned and efficient delivery.

Key Qualities:

  • Experience delivering projects or schemes in a regulated or safety critical environment.
  • Confident working within governance and project controls, with the ability to apply sound judgement where information is incomplete.
  • Strong organisational skills, able to manage multiple workstreams, interfaces, risks and deadlines.
  • Effective stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to build trusted relationships and influence across Network Rail, operators and delivery partners.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity, evaluating options and making decisions in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Positive, resilient and results‑focused, with a willingness to learn and contribute to improving railway performance through digital signalling.
  • Collaborative and supportive, working well as part of an energetic and evolving team.
