Safety Health & Environment Specialist (High Speed)
Network Rail High Speed Ltd is seeking a 12‑month fixed‑term Safety Health & Environment Specialist to support HS1 operations. The role reviews risk assessments, method statements, and health, safety and environment (HSE) documentation for track maintenance teams and supports audit and compliance activities.
Responsibilities
- Provide advice and guidance to staff on HSE matters.
- Manage and evaluate documentation requirements for HSE in line with the Network Rail High Speed Health & Safety Management System and legal requirements.
- Conduct risk‑based inspections of work sites and locations.
- Support line managers in Accident & Investigation processes and evidence collation.
- Assist NRHS teams in risk assessments and HSE monitoring activities.
- Contribute to execution of the NRHS Audit Plan.
- Collect and collate workforce HSE data for corporate management systems.
- Oversee supplier contract documentation and assess applicability.
- Provide project‑management support for HSE OPEX work in accordance with NRHS standards.
- Lead safety support for meetings with contracting organisations.
Essential Qualifications
- Member of IOSH at Technical (TechIOSH) level or above.
- Knowledge of HSE management systems and compliance processes.
- Understanding of UK environmental and health & safety legal requirements.
- Experience in railway operations and relevant standards.
- Strong risk assessment skills.
- Effective interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
- Logical thinker.
- Internal auditor qualification.
- Accident Investigator training.
Desirable
- Good IT skills.
- NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Knowledge of contractual processes.
- Project management knowledge.
