About the role
What does the average day look like?
At the heart of the railway planning process, you will support varied projects from across the entire timetable planning spectrum from assessing timetables only a few weeks from operation to significant infrastructure programmes looking into the 2040¿s.
Using bespoke timetable modelling and simulation software, you'll analyse modelling results to deliver narrative and guidance, producing insightful recommendations to timetable planners and senior stakeholders in the form of well written reports and presentations.
You’ll work closely with other Timetable Simulation Analysts, Timetable Simulation Specialists and Timetable Data Scientists from across the wider team, utilising and combining expertise to allow you to deliver the project outputs successfully.
Part of the role is stakeholder engagement. You will spend time building trusted relationships across Capacity Planning in Network Rail, and have opportunity to engage with train operators, freight customers, infrastructure project teams, timetable planners and industry partners. You'll work to understand each stakeholder's needs, challenge assumptions where appropriate, and ensure analytical work is focused on answering the right questions and delivering meaningful outcomes.
A little bit about the team¿
The Performance & Simulation Team offers advice, guidance and analytical support to help guide regions, funders and specifiers through decisions and trade-off criteria that need to be made through the timetable development cycle. The team does this by using either data science, historical trending or simulation methods.
Currently numbering 37 people, you'll be joining a team that has grown steadily in terms of numbers and influence over the last few years.
