About The Role

This is an incredibly varied general practice surveying role that will include leading on a variety of complex freehold and leasehold matters. Property Services support our engineering teams, asset owners and the wider railway industry to improve our estate to meet the needs of the passenger. You could be acquiring land for a new car park or station enhancement one day, and dealing with rural and urban estate owners to support a huge engineering scheme on the next, all interspersed with fast paced advisory matters to keep tracks and trains running. There is also the opportunity to get involved in meaningful commercial strategy and niche areas, such as land for train stabling and depots. Above all, we are a customer-service focussed part of the business bringing sought-after expertise so we will tailor our solutions to exceed our client's needs.

We operate in a complex, highly regulated environment, yet this role has scope for developing creative solutions. It will involve extensive stakeholder engagement and adherence to due process and governance, but there is also a great deal of autonomy to make reasoned decisions.

Property Services is a small team of one senior surveyor, two surveyors and a technical support surveyor supplemented by a supplier base from a main land agency firm and a panel of legal and valuation advisors. The team sits alongside our Stations and Depots colleagues, who manage almost every station and traincare depot lease, and so will be at the forefront of Great British Railways. We also work closely with other Property teams, including town planning, commercial (lettings), and sales and disposals in a close-knit community. We strive to offer effective Services to our route and engineering internal customer base, as well working with third party landowners to capture benefits co-operatively.
