About the role: Route Services is a division of Network Rail that provides the Routes with services so they can help Network Rail deliver a better railway for a better Britain. This role sits within Supply Chain Operations (SCO), which supplies and delivers the logistics, materials, components, rail and road fleet that enable the maintenance and renewal of the railway.
Location: This role can be based at our London Waterloo General Offices or in Milton Keynes, York or Crewe. Hours: 35 hours per week with hybrid working. This role involves travel to depots nationally at least twice a week, and may include occasional nights and weekends where required to support other areas of SCO. Flexible working is actively encouraged.
Salary range: Band 3C, £55,596 to £67,813 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Closing date: 29 September 2026. Late applicants will not be accepted. This role is being advertised internally and externally.

Your experience and skills: Supply Chain Operations (SCO) supports Route and Regional colleagues in the delivery of infrastructure, materials, logistics, and customer service. The WHSE Manager roles support the safe delivery of all these activities through a business partnering model. This role will specifically support the Production Services team who manage the facilities at over 45 depots nationally.
Key Accountabilities:
- Monitoring the Health, Safety and Environment strategy, business objectives and performance measures.
- Motivate the team to continuously identify refine and implement effective controls for occupational safety and railway safety risks.
- Co-ordinate the HSE activities of the Supply Chain Operations function.
- Support periodic meetings on H&S matters with external organisations.
- Development of the document control function.
- Create and initiate the development of workforce HSE improvements projects.
- Direct and lead on providing line management with advice and support for all issues in operational, fleet safety and functional sites of work.
- Maintain a comprehensive risk register for workforce health & safety.
- Development and implementation of environmental assurance arrangements.
- Develop workforce communication strategies.
What are the essential skills and experience we're looking for?
- Must be a member of the Institute of Occupational Health and safety (IOSH) at Certified (CertIOSH) level or above.
- Knowledge of health and safety management system and compliance management processes.
- Knowledge and experience of the railway operating environments.
- Excellent interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisational skills.
- Lead auditor or equivalent.
- Knowledge of contractual processes.
- Knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) regulations.
