From inspecting and fault-finding to maintenance and refurbishment work, you will play a hands-on role. You will ensure that everything is done efficiently and to the highest standards. Safety will be a priority. You will establish appropriate safety arrangements and ensure that both Network Rail staff and contractors follow safe working systems. By proactively managing and checking the quality of work and the competence of your people, you will see that assets fully comply and that all vehicles, machinery, tools, equipment and materials are fit for purpose. Along the way, you will produce a range of essential reports. You are important to your team. The team depends on you. We would expect you to direct, organize, and motivate a high-performing team.

Salary: £56,777 per annum. Closing date: 29th September 2026.

Your experience and skills:

• Experience in organizing and managing the safe and efficient delivery of work.
• Excellent communication skills, both in person and in writing.
• Knowledge of signalling maintenance, inspection, fault-finding, and refurbishment techniques.
• Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures, and instructions.
• A clear and inspiring leader with a strong sense of direction.

Desirable Criteria:

• Possess or be working towards relevant Signalling competencies such as AHB, MCB, RCPL, HW and SMTH.
• Ability and willingness to drive vehicles as required.

• Shifts - Operational roles include a rotating shift pattern including days, nights, and weekends.
• Working outdoors - Our workers work outdoors in all weather, so you should be comfortable working in different conditions.
• Working safely - job offers are subject to drug and alcohol tests, passing the relevant medical assessment, and BPSS pre-employment checks. This will include hearing and vision tests.
• Driving - As a team leader, you will also need a driving license (category B) in order to drive Network Rail vehicles.
• Commuting times - This role is based in Hereford. You will need to be within 60 minutes of Hereford train station.
• On-Call - To maintain fault response coverage across a 24/7 network, this role requires participation in an on-call rota as part of the roster. This role involves working during the day, at night, and on weekends, and is a critical safety role, so it is subject to drug and alcohol tests and passing the relevant medical assessment.
