About the role

What does an average day look like?

No two days are exactly the same. You'll be responsible for managing the Renewals work bank, working closely with stakeholders to understand upcoming works and determine the possession, access and On-Track Machine requirements needed for safe and successful delivery.

You'll populate and maintain planning masterplans, carry out possession and worksite assurance checks against planning standards, the Sectional Appendix and Rule Book, and make sure activities are planned accurately and effectively.

You'll also attend and contribute to Renewals planning meetings, lead planning discussions where required, and ensure agreed actions and outcomes are followed through.

The role includes managing one member of staff, so previous people-management or supervisory experience would be advantageous.

A little bit about the team

You'll be joining a planning team of 11 people who work closely together to solve complex planning challenges and develop safe, practical solutions for possessions and access.

The team covers three main planning areas: Renewals, Long-Term Planning and Short-Term Planning. We encourage open discussion, collaboration and knowledge-sharing, particularly when working through complex access arrangements and competing requirements.

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for someone who is proactive, organised and confident managing multiple priorities.

You'll need to be a strong communicator, comfortable leading planning meetings, challenging constructively and driving discussions around Renewals activities. You should be confident dealing with difficult or competing situations and able to work with others to achieve a positive and practical outcome.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workloads and prioritise against business needs.
  • Confidence communicating with a range of stakeholders and leading meetings.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Experience managing projects, activities or competing workstreams.
  • Previous people-management or supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Railway or possession-planning knowledge is desirable, but not essential. Candidates with strong transferable project-management and planning skills are encouraged to apply.

We're committed to creating a diverse, inclusive workplace that reflects the communities we serve. To discover more about our ED&I commitments click here. We value flexibility and understand the importance of a healthy work-life balance. As a Disability Confident Leader, we'll do everything we can to accommodate any needs throughout the recruitment process.

Safe behaviour is a requirement of working for Network Rail. Applicants should be able to demonstrate their awareness of our safety vision.

Your experience and skills

Who are we looking for?

  • 2 years' experience of infrastructure works planning in an operational environment
  • Grounded in all types of planning techniques
  • Ability to undertake risk analysis
  • Good interpersonal skills for working within a matrix organization
