Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK's only international high-speed railway, High Speed (HS1).

The 109km HS1 infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels. NRHS is also responsible for operating and maintaining three international stations; St Pancras, Stratford and Ebbsfleet International.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, NRHS is privately financed under an agreement with our client 'HS1 Ltd', undertaking a diverse range of activities from railway infrastructure maintenance and operations - through to station facilities management and retail on behalf of our client.

Technician - Rail Management

Location: Singlewell

Salary: Β£43816 + Outer London Allowance

Hours: Full time

Shift Pattern: Days, Nights and Weekends (Safety Critical Role)

About The Role

We're looking for a hands-on, adaptable Technician with a passion for railway operations, safety and teamwork. In this frontline role, you'll support a Team Leader, assist with the delivery of maintenance activities, and help ensure our rail infrastructure remains safe, reliable and compliant with industry standards.

What You'll Do

In this key post, you'll work closely with a Team Leader to organise, support and motivate an Infrastructure Maintenance team. You'll help ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently and in line with operational standards and procedures.

You'll be involved in a variety of Rail Management activities, including inspections, faulting, maintenance and renewal work across the network. No two days will be the same.

Acting As Team Leader When Required

There will be times when you step up and take the lead. This means:

  • Establishing and maintaining safety arrangements for staff and contractors
  • Directing work activities safely and efficiently
  • Checking the quality of completed work and ensuring compliance with standards
  • Confirming staff hold the appropriate competencies for their duties
  • Ensuring vehicles, tools, plant and equipment are fit for purpose and correctly used

This is a safety-critical role requiring confidence, resilience and strong decision-making skills. You'll be expected to maintain high standards whilst working in a fast-paced operational railway environment.

What You Bring

Experience in ONE or More of the Following:

  • Rail Maintenance
  • Infrastructure Inspection and Faulting
  • Permanent Way, Signalling or Operational Maintenance Activities
  • Infrastructure Renewals and Asset Management

Your Experience And Skills

What you'll need

  • Experience of implementing and working within safe systems of work
  • Knowledge of organising and delivering safe and efficient maintenance activities
  • The ability to promote and embed safe working behaviours within a team
  • Strong leadership and teamworking skills
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of rail maintenance, faulting and renewal techniques
  • Understanding of relevant standards, procedures and instructions
  • Commitment to personal development and supporting the development of others
  • A full UK driving licence

Bonus Skills (Not Essential, But Great to Have!)

  • NVQ Level 1 or 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
  • Experience leading teams or acting in a supervisory capacity
  • Knowledge of Network Rail standards and operational procedures
  • Experience mentoring colleagues and sharing best practice
  • Understanding of operational railway environments

Must live within 60 minutes of your depot.

This is a safety-critical role, which means you'll need to pass a medical assessment and be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Your role will involve working days, nights and weekends, so flexibility is necessary.
