Do you have the technical expertise to lead, support, and drive excellence in track refurbishment and renewals? If so, we want you to join our team as a Senior Technical Officer [Track]. As a Senior Technical Officer [Track], you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our track operations.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Ensuring all work is carried out safely and in line with policies and procedures.
  • Managing and checking work quality to maintain compliance with asset standards.
  • Co‑ordinate and undertake surveys to support scoping the works and support the preparation of work specifications, method statements, and plans, ensuring optimal resource allocation.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to the team.
  • Supervising and managing On Track Machine (OTM) operations.
  • Conducting technical inspections, tests, and data analysis.
  • Designing, installing, testing, and commissioning track equipment.
  • Managing calibration and certification of tools and equipment.
  • Updating and maintaining key systems, databases, and records.

What you’ll need knowledge or experience of to succeed:

  • Strong technical support experience with a focus on track/permanent way maintenance and construction management, systems and standards.
  • Expertise in design requirements, processes, and techniques for track and infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to demonstrate, promote, and embed safe working practices within the team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Relevant competencies and qualifications required for the role, including NVQ Level 3 or 4 in engineering/leadership or equivalent.
  • A full, valid driving licence and willingness to drive vehicles as required.
  • Knowledge of design requirements, processes and techniques including experience of producing detailed horizontal and vertical designs from conventional survey data.
  • Creating witness diagrams, experience of stressing designs and competency in stressing levels 1, 2 and 3.
  • Understanding and good knowledge of Critical Rail Temperature Management and stressing of Continuous Welded Rail.
  • Experience at TR13/Raising and Removing speeds up to level 2.
  • Experience in the installation of track on site including design tamping via ALC and MOST.
  • Knowledge of undertaking gauging assessments using Clear Route 2 and liaising with Gauging engineers and NGD to ensure design compliance.
  • Planning and arranging surveys, 2D & 3D Track surveys (coordinated).
  • Site validation and setting out prior to core weekend delivery.
  • Conversant in Trimble Business Centre.
  • Awareness of the H&S File process and implementation to NRG.
  • Understanding and knowledge of level crossing surfaces, longitudinal bearer systems, modular bearer systems, slab track systems.

Salary: £43,311 (plus enhanced overtime) – IMC Terms and Conditions
