Brief Description: Play a vital role in keeping the country moving. We are looking for a Technician to join our Liverpool Delivery Unit, based out of Chester. Signalling & Telecoms (S&T) offers a dynamic and diverse role that combines both electrical and mechanical engineering skills. There is a variety in tasks, from using electronic testing equipment to measuring critical electrical parameters, to working with mechanical systems that guide trains, ensuring that no two days are the same.

As a railway Technician, you will work outdoors as part of a close-knit team, undertaking inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal work as allocated, and also provide support to your Team Leader to organise and motivate the team so that work is undertaken safely, efficiently and to the relevant standards. Please Note: There may be a requirement to work on call in this role if you opt to take the Standard Maintenance Contract.

About the role: You will be a key member of the team, carrying out tasks as directed by the Team Leader. This role requires leadership, technical expertise, and oversight of work quality. You will provide support to the Team Leader to organise and motivate the team so that work is undertaken safely, efficiently and to the relevant standards. Undertake inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal work as allocated and where directed, act as Team Leader. You will also accurately report all work completed/not completed and produce/maintain records as required and control and check the quality of work undertaken and confirm assets are compliant to standards.

  • Knowledge and experience of signalling inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques
  • Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post, required by business need
  • Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need
  • Have interest or experience in Electrical Engineering
  • Be willing to work outdoors in all weather types at any time of the day
  • Experience of organising and controlling the safe and efficient delivery of work
  • Desire to always improve yourself and make things better

Commute times: You will also need to be within a 60-minute commute of the location that you are applying for.

Additional requirements:

  • Already hold a valid PTS
  • Previous experience in S&T installation or working with S&T equipment
  • Hold qualifications of either Mechanical or Electrical engineering from either further education or from previous employment, or be able to demonstrate these principles from experience
  • This role involves days, nights and weekend working, and is a safety critical role so subject to drug and alcohol testing and passing of the relevant medical assessment.

  • Salary: 43,997 plus additional benefits (overtime, weekend, on-call, night rates)
