About the role

Do you enjoy hands on problem solving and tackling complex electrical and technical challenges?

This is far more than a maintenance role. It's an opportunity to work at the heart of Britain's railway, using your skills to help keep passengers and freight moving safely and reliably across the network. Every shift brings something different, from fault finding using advanced electronic testing equipment to maintaining the mechanical systems that safely guide trains along their journeys. No two days are ever the same.

As part of a dedicated and supportive team, you'll inspect, maintain and repair some of the railway's most critical infrastructure. From signalling control systems, track circuits and axle counters to point machines, power supplies and telecoms equipment, the work you carry out will play a vital role in the safe operation of the railway.

As a Technician, you'll build on your existing Signalling and Telecoms experience and take your career to the next level. You'll have greater responsibility, supporting the Team Leader in organising work, motivating colleagues and ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality and performance. You'll carry out inspection, maintenance, fault-finding and renewal activities, whilst also having opportunities to step up and lead the team when required, helping you develop valuable leadership skills for the future.

Attention to detail is critical in this role. You'll maintain accurate technical records, ensure assets meet required standards and help uphold the safe operation of the railway. The decisions you make and the work you deliver will have a direct impact on colleagues, passengers and the wider communities we serve.

The role offers a varied shift pattern, with rosters provided in advance to help you plan around family, friends and personal commitments. You'll also work outdoors throughout the year, so you'll need to be comfortable working in all weather conditions.

Salary: £45,669 per annum

Your experience and skills

We are looking for someone who is motivated by making a real impact and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

• Experience of arranging and implementing safe systems of work.
• Knowledge of how to organise and control the safe and efficient delivery of work.
• Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.

• Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of signalling inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques.
• Conversant with standards, procedures and instructions.
• Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post, required by business need.*
• Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 1 or 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained an appropriate level of knowledge through equivalent relevant experience
• Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
