Brief Description
As an Assistant Asset Engineer in the Structures Assessment team you will manage a portfolio of approximately 6,300 assessable assets in the Eastern Region. The role involves supporting the assessment team in maintaining the capability of structures and buildings through inspections, risk assessments, and the delivery of work plans.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the application of asset‑management processes to achieve financial and output targets.
- Schedule and carry out examinations, inspections, and assessments of assets and provide reports in line with policy, systems and standards.
- Specify and prioritise actions to address defects and issues, oversee the development and handover of prioritised work items, and produce route‑specific management regimes.
- Undertake engineering analysis and risk assessments of assets or asset components to support scheme development, including business cases and whole‑life cost analysis.
- Monitor asset condition and capability data to inform maintenance, strengthening, risk mitigation and renewal plans.
- Provide support to the specification and development of enhancement schemes and manage interfaces with network capability programmes.
- Determine mitigation actions necessary to reduce the impact of adverse weather on asset performance.
- Maintain asset data within the company systems and processes.
- Provide engineering support and participate in investigations of incidents.
- Assist with review proposals from other disciplines or external organisations that could affect the region or route assets.
- Monitor technical development of projects, confirm renewal requirements, and support design approvals.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- Significant experience in a relevant Civil/Structural engineering discipline.
Desirable
- Incorporated Engineer status.
- Knowledge of engineering policies and standards.
- Knowledge of structural assessment of bridges and structures.
- Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- Understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.
