We are looking for a highly experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to manage and execute payroll operations within the fast-paced utilities and construction sectors. This is a 12-month fixed term contract role with potential to go permanent.
Key Responsibilities- End-to-end processing of monthly payrolls and fortnightly for diverse employee groups, including site and office-based teams.
- Support the rollout of new payroll systems including data migration, testing, and training.
- Collaborate with IT and finance teams to streamline payroll processes and reporting.
- P11D and Year-End Reporting. Prepare and submit P11D forms for employee benefits and expenses in line with HMRC guidelines.
- Assist with year-end processes including reconciliation, audit support and statutory reporting.
- Maintain comprehensive payroll records and documentation particularly relating to regulatory audits.
- Generate payroll reports and analytics to support finance and operational leadership.
- Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC reporting, and industry-specific pay practices (e.g. travel and subsistence, shift patterns).
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and site managers during mobilisation and demobilisation phases of projects.
- Experience with payroll systems (e.g. ADP, PeopleHub, Sage) and time management tools.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment and tax legislation.
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial and HRIS systems.
- Confident communicator with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
- Experience managing multi-site, project-based payrolls.
- Understanding of CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) and contractor compliance.
