The role of Assistant Estimator is to support the wider estimating team whilst also developing the skills and attributes to become a successful estimator within the Security Division. It is essential that you can become part of a close team that is motivated and driven towards achieving growth and continued profitability within a competitive and exciting industry.

Tasks will include interpreting detailed plans and drawings to establish varied and often complex scopes of work. You will develop the ability to schedule and cost the construction materials required and gain an understanding of the labour resource needed to complete the project, all with a view to preparing detailed and accurate tender proposals for the client.

Key Responsibilities
  • Survey potential work sites; establish ground and site conditions, confirm scope of work and specific design/specification requirements.
  • Produce detailed survey reports for pricing and future co-ordination of works.
  • Maintain accurate records for follow-up calls and future reconciliation.
  • Develop understanding of construction methods and health and safety legislation in order to aid in the generation of accurate cost proposals.
  • Identify the best solution in order to achieve client’s requirements, requiring an in-depth understanding of the security fencing market and the systems available.
  • Generate accurate price build-ups to cover the plant, labour and materials required to successfully complete the given project.
  • Progress price sheets into clear and concise tender proposals for presentation to the client.
  • Help prepare detailed Schedule of works/Bill of Quantities for submission to the client.
  • Assist with the preparation of detailed Pre-qualification questionnaire responses.
Business Development
  • At all times promote and develop relationships with clients and suppliers.
  • Generate leads and follow up quotations to uncover future opportunities and gain understanding of the market level.
  • Monthly reporting of leads and outstanding enquiries.
  • Attend meetings throughout the UK with both new and existing customers.
Experience and Qualifications
  • No prior experience necessary, however this would be beneficial.
  • Also suitable for A’ level students or Graduates looking to enter the construction industry.
  • Possess strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Possess good IT skills (MS Excel important, MS Project, P6 an advantage).
  • Maintain an efficient filing system commensurate with contract.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Organised, with good time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Can adapt to different tasks quickly, efficiently and confidently.
  • Team orientated, however capable of working autonomously in a busy office environment.
  • Driven and motivated to succeed in a competitive environment.
